Description & Location:

- Dates back to the 50's according to Google.
- About a 1/3 of a mile further up the A5 is "Wagon and Horses" which has exotic dancers between 11 am and 11 pm, but is closed on Sunday ... according to Dave.
This Cafe has been around since the late 50's early 60's and was a popular spot for the rockers to drop in on their way to gigs. Has also been used in movies, notably Quadrophenia although we are trying to verify this. A small cafe located in a truckstop with overnight parking for approximately 60-65 lorries. Cafe has brand new toilet and shower facilities, has had a complete internal makeover, and now boasts a pool table, fruit machines, truck life accessories, CDs and DVDs, a small retail area, along with our food thats cooked daily, and can be eaten it or taken out.

Watling Street Transport Cafe and Truck Stop is just off the M1, junction 9. (A5) Head north on the A5 towards Flamstead / Markyate NOT St. Albans. It's on the right, about 150 yards from the roundabout.

In all my years as a truck driver never before have i tasted such bland and burnt food!!.i ordered cod and chips and beans,it took 25mins to get to the table, when it arrived i made the fatal mistake of putting some tomato sauce on my plate!!MY GOD!!! the worst, cheapest nasty sauce i have ever tasted.
The beans were warm at some point(but not when they arrived at my table),the fish was over cooked to the point of burnt, and the salad looked like yestedays.A real shame as the staff are very well mannered, its clean,BUT......the food was dire.

Disgusting Breakfast, the staff even worse!!
Avoid this place like the plague, everything but the eggs came out of the deep fat fryer that tasted like it uses the old engine oil from the trucks in the car park!
Cheapest of ingredients used. Noticed the staff in the kitchen with cigarettes in their mouths, even though they weren't lit it was very off putting. When I told the staff I was unhappy with our breakfasts, they said I didn't have to eat it and that they don't do refunds.
The worst breakfast and staff ever!!

Stopped here on the way to Ireland, great breakfast at a good price, but I don't think it is open on a Sunday, well it was not when I stopped for a breakfast one Sunday on the way to Brackley 2 years ago.
